Dumitru Comanescu was aged 111 years and eight months old when he passed away on Saturday – just under one month after inheriting the title of the oldest living man in the world.
The oldest man in the world has died less than one month after scooping the impressive title.
Romanian Dumitru Comanescu was 111-years-old and eight months when his death was recorded on Saturday 27 June 2020.
Alexandra Dobre, the director of the Bucharest Center for Seniors in Romania, confirmed the sad news to Digi24 on Sunday.
Mr Comanescu had been crowned the oldest living man on 28 May when he took the titled from British OAP Bob Weighton who died aged 112.
The cause of Mr Comanescu’s death is yet to be announced.
The European – who lived through both World Wars, the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918, and the rise and fall of the USSR – had credited his long life with the love of his wife, sons and grandsons.
He was also awarded the Patriarchal Cross by Patriarch Daniel, the head the Romanian Orthodox Church, three days ago.
Locals have expressed sadness at the passing of the “generous” and “childlike” man.
While Bucharest Center for Seniors’ Ms Dobre told Universal.net: “Meeting him was a real life lesson about faith and responsibility that we have to every living soul we meet, about the power to overcome life’s small and big challenges, about virtue, kindness, humanity and understanding.” She added: “We will miss you Mr. Dumitru Comanescu! May you have eternal rest.” Mr Comanescu was born on 8 November 1908 in the village of Provița de Jos in southern Romania and worked in agriculture. Last month he spoke about inheriting the title of the oldest living man in the world. He sad: “I’d like to thank all those who have been with me, who helped and supported me along the years, my family, friends and people close to me. “But more than anything, I thank God because He chose for me to be here today, as the world’s oldest man.
